It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected
passing of an adventurous and loving spirit, Ron Allen Gibson, father,
grandfather, husband, uncle, brother and friend, on Thursday, October
11, 2007. Ron was born in Peterborough, Ontario on February 13, 1939.
His family fondly recalls that from a very young age, Ron looked to the
stars and sky with avid fascination – flying was his dream. Ron‘s
sisters and friends remember with a smile the acrobatics and antics in
the Cornell and Harvard with the young and talented pilot.
In the 1960‘s, Ron moved to the
remote North, settling in Upsala to eventually own and operate Gibson‘s
Resort and Thousand Lakes Airways and to raise a family of three girls
whose friends and schoolmates were often treated to plane rides with the
Red Baron Gibson, decked out in a red scarf and goggles. Each flight
with Dad was a thrill, as he explained the mechanics of takeoff and
landing, and told fascinating stories. His daughters remain proud of
their father, a true hero in their eyes.
He was so proud of his planes,
particularly the legendary and historical Norseman. Ron truly dedicated
his life to the North. Flying with Ron was to be amazed by his talent,
his intimate knowledge of the land and the lakes, and to be inspired by
his love and passion for flight. Ron worked tirelessly on his outpost
camps – his dedication and energy will forever be remembered by his
customers and friends who flew out to Jay Vee, Stonehouse and others -
Ron was always proud that many who flew as children returned year after
year as parents, and even grandparents. It is certain that Ron‘s life‘s
work will live on forever in the memories of so many. The stories
cherished by all those who knew Ron and flew with him are infinite and
will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his three children
Kim (Phil), Jenny (Chris), Judy; his brand new granddaughter Taylor
Gabrielle; his loving partner Carole; his sisters Fran, Donna (Frank),
Gail (Ken), Bonnie (Tom), his brother Bob (Heidi); numerous nieces and
nephews and the mother of his daughters, Celine. He is predeceased by
his loving mother Ella, and his father Robert.
For all of us, Ron will be remembered
for his love of adventure, his infectious sense of humour, and his kind
and generous heart.
We love you Ron and will miss you
dearly.
